January is wrapped up

Well, it has been a while since I posted, sorry. I am trying to ride the bike more, but life has been very difficult lately with health of family. Long story short, Brian's Mom has been in and out of the hospital since Christmas, and the last 2 weeks were really rough. I just got back from CA helping Dad and being in the hospital with him, so my rides have not been in track.

As for other stuff, we have our annual Super Bowl party coming up and we look forward to that. Also, the kids pooled their money and bought a new play set in the for the back yard.

This is a picture from the web of the one they bought. We have some yard prep to do before ours gets installed, so we have a few more weeks until that is ready. But they are excited. When they went and picked it up, the owner (bought used) also gave them a small pedal power go cart. The boys love that thing.

Anyway, the month has gone by in a flash, and Kristi turned another year older, but she still does not look a day over 29.

First ride

Well, last week we had both our bikes serviced by a find. Marc has been a 4-wheeling buddy for years and he owns Prescott Valley Dirt Works. His bike shop is very busy, but he got us in and made the best out of our low budget bikes. For that I thank him. Marc even pointed out to me how to properly size a bike frame. As it turns out, my low budget bike is too small, and he warned me I would feel it.

Earlier this week, we took a leisurely ride with the boys on their bikes and Jessica in the trailer behind my bike. Kristi even held in to the dog leash, so the whole family was out. No problem. Now I remember why they things are like riding a bike.

This morning, I took a ride while everyone was out. Jessica went in the trailer, but since we were alone, I could try to keep a bit more of a pace that was moving, not crawling from the boys tiny bikes. After my 2 mile ride, I honestly thought I was going to die. No really. I thought I was having a heart attack. My whole body was shaking and cold and my chest hurt more than it ever has. I recovered, but now the seriousness of my goal is really apparent. I am still moving forward, but it will be an uphill battle.

I will be starting a second blog to track my rides and my goal progress. I will post when I launch that soon. I also am using a free software for my phone which tracks my rides and stuff. If you bike and want to join me on the internet software friends, MapMyRide is the name, and you can look me up. It is cool, it maps the ride and what you eat. It has all sorts if fitness stuff, I am still learning it, but the mapping is the best part for me.

In case you don't know, my goal is to ride in the Bike MS in 2013. I want to do which ever route takes me over 100 miles in 2 days. This is a fundraiser, so start saving your change and I will let you know more on that part late this year.

Anyway, just keeping you all up to date. This goal is going to be expensive as well as difficult. So keep us in your prayers.

I know, its a day late... Better late than never.

With 2012 upon us, my schedule changes from our routine and sets up some diffrent things.

Kristi and I have set a goal to ride our bikes more this year. I expanded that goal and have set a personal goal to ride in the MS biking event in 2013. It is a 2 day ride around 100 miles that happens early in the year. So this years event is too close to be prepared starting from my lack of skill level.

In addition, the 2012 Crawl 4 Christ, hosted by UCORA is happening in Moab, UT. I am organizing that and look forward to a great event. If you want more info on that, go to www.UCORA.org

This year Kristi and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Hard to believe she has put up with me for that long. We are not sure what we are going to do to celebrate, but I am working on that.

Overall, 2012 is lining up to be another busy year around our house, but as always, God is a big God and he will make everything work in His plan. We are just along for the ride.

Christmas Eve!

After we went to church and did the fun hay ride, ornament decorating and many more fun things we came home and the kids Decorated a birthday cake for Jesus. I said we can decorate it in the morning guys but Scott said "No mom it has to be done before tomorrow so it is ready for Jesus' birthday". Kevin said "Jesus can't see it till His birthday" and Scott answered Kevin by saying "He is here right now and He see's it". Kids say the cutest things and sometimes very profound =)

Kevin's Thumb Surgery

Kevin's Thumb Surgery on Dec 12th went very well and he is doing great. He has not Complained once of pain since we have been home. Today we took off his bandage off to take a bath and his incision is looking great. he can already straighten his thumb we just need to keep telling him to do so since he has gotten use to it not being straight.

After his Thumb surgery that morning he came home and rested watching Polar Express! That evening he had his Preschool Christmas Program and he was determined to go no matter what.

Been a while

Well, it was pointed out that it has been a while since I posted. So let e give you the short version...

First, the week after Scott's Father/Son 4Wheeling trip, Kevin got his turn. We headed down the back roads through Prescott area and had a great time. We did have on incident...

He was fine, and enjoyed the group barbecue afterwards for sure.

Next, we had Scott's 6th birthday. I know what you are thinking, he is 6?!? We are thinking that also.

After that was Thanksgiving and a visit from Aunt Donna. Great to see you again Donna.

Then it was the time for our annual family trip for Christmas.

For the second year, Warren & Debby (Grandma & Grandpa) took the family on a trip for Christmas. This year, Southern California was the place. We hit Sea Life Aquarium, Sea World, and Lego Land. What a great trip! Thanks Grandma & Grandpa!

Finally, Jessica had her second birthday party today.

I know I know, another year too quickly passed.

What a whirl wind month it has been. We know December will go just as fast, but we will try to keep ya posted.

Father & Son 4-Wheeling

This weekend was the first of 2 back-to-back weekend 4x4 trips, so Scott was with me today, and Kevin will be with me next week.

Our trail was De Soto Mine trail. Scott had a great time with the snow in the mountains, the mud in the ravines, and the rocks on the trail. We had a great time. I can't share the fun, but you can enjoy a few pictures.

Well Yesterday i got all my furniture in the room. i have a nice big new sewing table that came with the big drawers and two little sets of drawers plus the little work counter. The little work counter under the window is designed for the kiddos. in each of the cabinets is kid craft stuff. this room will be so much fun for me! oh and needless to say we get our bedroom back and is now not over taken by craft stuff. My first project for in the new room is a princess dress for Jessica to wear for her birthday since she wants to do a princess theme =)

Good News and Bad News

Well, there is good news and bad news here in AZ.

First the bad news...

The Diamondbacks lost the 5 game series. They went all the way to game 5, and into the 10th inning, but were beat by the Brewers. So their season is over. Oh well, great season Diamondbacks, and better luck next year.

In other bad news, we hit a snag with the addition. I put a second circuit breaker for outside power around the addition, and got it wired in tonight. Unfortunately, it has a problem and won't power up, so I guess I am not so lucky to get it all right the first time on electrical.

Now on to the good news!

We bought the flooring to be install in the next week or so. Also, the cabinets were purchased and installed. Check out some pictures.

MS Walk Results

Since the Prescott Area Walk on the Wild Side MS walk was founded, Brian has continually been increasing his goals and raising more money. Today, October 1, 2011, Brian had the walk again.

This year, the walk expanded the route to include a 3.8 mile option which Brian did instead of the usual 1.2 mile route in Prescott. With the efforts of many supporters, I was able to raise over $1,000 and was recognized as the top fund raiser in the walk. Though I don’t do it for the recognition, I just want to have a chance to find a cure and every dollar counts. As of today, there is no cure for Multiple Sclerosis, but by helping to fund research, that may soon change.

This poster was printed before my final donations were in, I raised over $1,060.00 this year!

This year, the Prescott Walk for MS raised over $12,000 at the point of the walk and donations were still being accepted to go toward the event until the end of October. The Arizona Chapter of the National MS Society has been serving the state of Arizona since 1956. During this time, our understanding of MS has increased, the services we are able to provide have grown and the research we help to fund has led to treatments and therapies where none existed only 15 years ago. They proudly serve over 8,000 Arizonans affected by MS.

Addition Progress - Stucco and Interior paint!

Yesterday evening they finally came and finished up the stucco so the outside is complete with the exception of paint. YEAH!!!!

We also painted the interior! We started with a Drywall Primer and we had very good helpers helping us!

We also got The rest of the painting done! YEAH for color!!!!

and it's a good thing too, because the budget is nearing completion also.

Here is the inside, all set and ready for paint. we also got our new "smart" dog door installed. This door will unlock for Tank, but locks to keep wind and varmints out. Funny thing, it actually comes with a warning label that says it will not keep children from passing through it. That is one reason we got it, to deter the kids from using the dog door.

And we finally got some stucco. Not complete yet, but it is a start. We had some water leaking issues, so hopefully they are solved now.

We have to figure out some sort of drip edge over the dog door since rain is flowing down the wall and inside that opening. Not sure yet how I will do it, but probably a flashing of some sort. We needed to get stucco done, so we will have to add that later.

Daily Progress

Well the week of contractors is wrapping up, and for the most part, they are on time.

First, on the exterior... the lathe was completed late last week and was supposed to be completed today. Unfortunately the contractor did not show and says he will tomorrow, so here is where the outside sits.

The inside is another story. The Drywall guys were on time and fast, so now they are doing tape and texture. Today was day 2 of taping and evening it out. Tomorrow, they will be back to do texture and then Monday they will finish everything off. Here is how it looks.

After these 2 contractors are done, I have finish work to do, trim, and paint. The flooring will be soon too and we will be all done. So far we are under budget, but we are trying to get the flooring done too, and that is getting tight since we have to get the hole house done so it matches (wood laminate floor). We are afraid if we don't, we will go back later to buy more and hear that is is not made any more. That would be our luck. So we are going to buy it all at once.

That wraps up today, progress is going well.

Kevin's first day of Preschool

Today was a busy day. In addition to the construction going on (see more below) Kevin had his first day of school ever! He started Preschool today. Here are a few highlights.

So I call it an addition, but really it is an enclosure. Anyway, all the rough framing and electrical is done. We have our "rough in" inspection today, then we schedule contractors for insulation, drywall, and stucco. I still have outside electrical trenching to do, and the concrete patio, but the project is really looking good.

A touch of chocolate

This past weekend, Kristi and I went out on a date to a newer restaurant in town called "Donya Marie's Beyond Chocolate. "

The food at this restaurant includes one ingredient in every recipe, dark chocolate. Now I know what you are thinking, we were too. Chocolate lasagna? Chocolate mac and cheese? Chocolate in salad dressing? Yes, yes, and yes.

The food was very interesting and very good. While Kristi and I both agree it is not our favorite restaurant, it is definitely worth a try and the occasional intimate meal. One thing to note, don't take any large groups of 6 or more without calling them first. The dining room is very small and can't handle a lot of people.

To the new owners, good luck to you both and great job cooking Donya.

R.I.P. to and old friend...

Yes, today we Kristi awoke to the news that an old friend of ours was lost overnight.

Many people who have visited our home in the last 4 to 5 years have met our friend.

Many of those who met this friend could not believe how well he excelled beyond any expectations.

Some people even helped us to take care of our friend, and we know will mourn with us.

So today, we say goodbye to...

Our houseplant!

This tree was given to us as an 18 inch plant housewarming gift and was described as having growth potential of (3-4 feet). Well 4 years or more later, and over 12 feet in height was finally too much. We had previously braced the tree with a road stake for support, but apparently the weight of the upper portions was too much and give up last night.

While I make a joke of this thread, we have to find a new tree... maybe a ficus?

Day 3 - The End

Well, the rumors were true. About 2:00 we were released from the hospital with direction of home. We got home around 3:30 "ish" and got Scott & Jessica as well as Tank from family. After getting some needed supplies from Wal-Mart (since we left the house fairly empty on groceries) we are now settled in. The kids are all in bed, and we are home. We have some catching up to do, that is for sure, but we are home earlier than planned and now we can start the road back to normal life.

Day 3 - Sleep, Play, and Travel?

I am typing this early as we are still not sure what is happening. Kevin is doing well, and the cardiologist has said that we will be released today. We originally told a 4 day minimum, so we are skeptical, but nurses and everyone is talking like it may happen. I will update the blog as we know more, but if we are driving, it may be tonight's update from home.

Kevin's Recovery - Day 2

Well, today we woke up early, like 2am early when Kevin suddenly became wide awake. So on came the movies and we sat and stayed up with him. He was permitted to begin eating, ice chips, over night, and he wanted more so bad, but we had to ration his eating to be sure his stomach would not stamp the first entry "Return to Sender" if you know what I mean...

He fell back asleep shortly and we did also, sort of. You see, the sleeping accommodations for the family are sparse. There is a chair which leans back a bit, but nothing major, and there is a small sofa that the back cushions fold out of the way so it can be laid on. So Kristi slept on the sofa, since she fits, and Brian made the best of the chair.

As you can guess, not our best nights sleep and we both are tired.

Kevin however, did great today. He got the heart IV line removed early this morning as well as the catheter, The nurse said to expect a difficult time readjusting to normal bathroom trips, but not Kevin. He was in the rest room doing all his business within minutes, literally. Kevin also got the green light to begin eating, no limits, so we began the food flow. He started with some dry cereal. We were telling him to eat slow, but slow was using only one hand to Kevin instead of double fist shoveling. He also has some eggs, and a juice box. Then he ordered again. For lunch (second breakfast) he had more cereal and a banana and drank a 12 oz Gatorade. Dinner for Kevin was having breakfast again for dinner when he ordered eggs, jello, and another Gatorade drink. He began to slow down as he realized that he was feeling better when he ate slow. This afternoon the drain line to his surgery opening was also removed which is making him much more comfortable.

The day was mixed with lots of sleep still, eating, and he also did his first walking since the surgery. The cardiac doctor said he was impressed how well Kevin was doing since it was less than 24 hours from surgery he began to walk again. Praise God, he is beginning to feel like himself again.

Weather here in Phoenix has been hot. Tempers over 100 have been outside, but we have not been outside much. Brian went out to get a couple things at Wal-Mart, and he and Kristi walked briefly outside while Kevin napped this afternoon, but otherwise, we have been at his side all day.

If you have never looked at Phoenix Children's Hospital I encourage you to check it out online. Great facility, great staff, huge cafeteria with good food, and we have had a great experience so far. I don't wish this on anyone, but at least the staff here makes it easier.

We have a couple pictures we may share tomorrow, but for now, we are heading to bed. Every minute sleep is valuable. Keep praying and Praising for what has progressed so far.

Surgery Update, In Recovery now.

Okay, we are in a recovery room, so now I can breathe and tell you a bit more...

Kevin came out of surgery after about 2 hours. We were allowed to see him again after another 30 minutes or so. The surgeon was able to do the procedure with a small incision below the rib cage and never had to cut the breast bone nor spread the ribs. That is a huge praise and hopefully will speed recovery some.

It is hard now to look at him. He is sedated with tubes from every place you can get to skin and just out cold. He will be in recovery for a few days, but we will update you as things happen.

Thank you everyone for all the prayers. Makes me understand the words more to Mark Schultz's "He's My Son" with every minute.

Kevin's Surgery, day one

Okay, Kevin's "12:15" surgery began at around 3:30. As I am writing this, he is still not out and we have no word (1 hour down, probably 1 to go). Someone please remind me if I ever have to go through this again, kiss him goodnight and leave, don't watch the doctor take him away. Trying to be strong for Kristi and hold back while seeing him go away with someone I don't know is that hardest thing I have ever done. Please Lord, don't EVER let me do that again.

When it rains, it pours! And we are at flood stage...

As most of you readers know, we have been stressed to the max lately with the preparations for Kevin's surgery next week. Well yesterday, we got hit again with more troubles.

First, one of the boys decided that a Capri-Sun juice drink box would be best disposed of in the sewer. Since the best way to do that was the toilet, it was flushed. Now when Kristi found the slow draining toilet, neither child would confess. It was not even certain at that time what was flushed. Brian came home from work and attempted to remove it with a snake, but no luck. So the toilet had to be taken apart and then removed to clean the trap. We found the juice box and again, the boys fingers magic pointed at each other. So they both split the bill for parts and hopefully learned a lesson or two.

Also yesterday, the washer decided to quit. Mid load, full of water, and not spinning. So after the toilet was repaired and the caulking drying, I set out to look at the washer. A small amount of soot was on the back and the smell of burnt electrical filled the room. So I borrowed a hand siphon and started draining. I tried to get the motor to engage in a spin cycle to drain the tub and after a few tries, it spun. So now we are in shopping mode for a washer and dryer. After the previous replacement of the dryer earlier this year in a pinch, we are thinking a new set, less than 3 years old. These things are stupid expensive now, I can't believe the cost of these.

So here we are, now wondering where this money will come from. Please keep us in your prayers, and we pray no more expenses before the surgery, our emotions and our accounts can't take it any more.

Back in the Saddle Again

Well, finally after 1 month of down time, I got the motorcycle back and got back to riding.

I will not go into long details or get on my soap box, but let's just say I don't think I will go to that mechanic again.

In other news, Kevin's heart surgery is June 16, so we are gearing up for that.

Also, we celebrate 9 years of marriage this Wednesday. I may not get to post again until after the big day so I want to say thank you to Kristi for 10 of the best years of my life, 9 of them we were married. I love you.

Well, it was bound to happen

and today it did.

No, I am not singing a Garth Brooks tune, I mean a spill. When I bought the motorcycle, I was not naive enough to think I would be perfect and never dump it. So today, it happened. On the way home from work, I caught some gravel in a turn, the bike slid off the road, onto the dirt, and down the ditch. I am okay, a few bumps and bruises, but now the bike sits in the garage in need of repair...

I am glad I was wearing all the safety gear, boots, gloves, helmet, and jacket. I only suffered a few scrapes. I limped the bike home slowly and safely.

Now I have to access the damage and get a cost, guess it is back to driving the fuel hog 4Runner to work.

First ride

I bought all the safety gear sale shopping the last month. I passed the rider safety course to get lower insurance and my license endorsement. I went to MVD to add the endorsement and get my new card.

So today I rode the bike to work for the first time. It rode well, and felt good. I think I will really enjoy riding a motorcycle.

Last full day

Well, sorry I forgot yesterday, with a full workday and good weather, I forgot.

Today was the last work day. After work I stayed for the entire air show. It was a great show. I have tons of pictures on my camera, but not much on the phone. I did get one of the balloons on hsre. I will share others later. I miss the kids and Kristi tons. I can't wait to see them when I fly home tomorrow.

Thursday, the worst weather yet

Today I had to report to work early. As the sun came up, we had poor radar returns, and some nasty wall clouds...

As some of you may know or have heard, wall clouds are the type of weather tornado weather starts as.

Well today was bad. No confirmed reports of a tornado, however straight line winds were very bad. It may have been a micro-burst, but I don't have internet to see what they determine it was. Remember the pictures above, here are the same planes after the damage.

We are all okay, no injuries to FSS persons, but I did not stick around after the shift to walk around. Today's show was canceled. Sorry Batman and Elmo, another day around the hotel.

Mid week, and another rainy day

Well, today was my second day off, I went to the air show. I took a ton of pictures with the big camera, unjust a couple on the phone.

First, the Kodiak. This airplane is what is flown by MAF. It really is huge, and for just under 2 million, you could own one too. I will even help you fly it.

Next, this small amphibious airplane is only 1.7 million and twas for sale. Any takers, again I will help you put time on the meter.

Tonight, I also had the opportunity to meet some new friends from UCORA. Kevin and his wife have a great ministry tool. Her Jeep (Yup, its hers) is well dressed, but don't let that fool you, she still uses it, then cleans it up to show. The dirt on it is from all the rain.

Day 3, less rain, and a trip to Kennedy

Today I drove over to Kennedy Space Center. It was sad to see cranes taking down launch pad B, since the shuttle is nearly done for good. Also saw an alligator out there, cool to see in the wildlife refuge.

Florida Day 2

Well, today was the first work day here in Florida. For a person who is briefing pilots, at an air show, the weather stunk. We had rain, rain, and more rain. The first picture is where we work for the show. We are inside, so it was just very slow, but at least we were dry. After work, we went to dinner, then back to the hotel for the night.

Today Dad had to work, so we Hung out at the hotel. The pool is outdoors and closed still for winter, so we rapped and watched television. Later, Dad picked us up and we went to a restaurant called Smokey Bones. The food was great, and we got really messy. After dinner we went home and went to bed.

The start of my trip to Florida.

Well today I departed for Florida. I (Brian) am going on a company trip to Lakeland for the EAA Sun-n-Fun air show. Since the family could not attend, I will be flogging my trip as I can. However, I am not traveling alone. Scott and Kevin each selected a toy to come see Florida with me, so I am accompanied by Batman (a small black Bernie puppy of Scott's) and by Elmo (from Kevin's toys). Even today, these two have done a lot.

You can see from the pictures, we saw our airplane arrive at Phoenix Sky Harbor, then we got in our seats and ready for the flight. After we landed the pilot even let us see the cockpit.

We headed to the hotel from there for the night.

We will get pictures with our car and stuff tomorrow.

Now to save some gas money

After filling up the Lincoln again for $90.00, I decided it was time to get a more gas efficient vehicle to get to work and back. Hopefully the lower fuel cost for me will help offset the higher one for our family vehicle.

I will be taking the riders safety course in mid April and this will lower my insurance and get my license taken care of without the drivers course. I will post more pictures as I get them and get more details.

Well, it was inevitable. Keven turned 3. I keep telling the kids they are not allowed to grow up any more, but the keep telling me "No Way Daddy!"

So Kevin wanted a 3-year old golf party. With the sudden snow storm we got here, the golf was kept indoors, but the kids still had a blast.

2011 Arizona Diamondbacks Fen Fest

We went again this year to the D-Backs Fan Fest at Chase Field. It was another great year where we got to play, get autographs, and see the team. They have all kinds of fun for the kids, interviews for the adults, video taping commercials, kid-kasters auditions, and even bring out the fun from the previous seasons.

Over the last years, the D-Backs have introduced the "Legends." The giant bobble head costumes are of the past greats from our team.

and finally, we waited in line just before closing time to meet Scott's favorite player, Justin Upton. We still are not sure how he got so attached to Justin, but ever since he became a Diamondback, Scott has always loved seeing Justin Upton. Maybe it is because we sit in right field and he plays there. So this year, Scott got to meet "his buddy" Justin Upton!

It was a great day and an even better way to kick off the 2011 season. The Diamondbacks have a lot of new blood this year, a new training facility, and a new manager. Maybe we will see another 2001.

Wow, it has been since Kristi's birthday since we posted. Sorry.

On January 29, Brian and bunch of the former ERAU 4x4 Club had a sort of "Reunion" run at Table Mesa Trail area. We ran Raw Deal and Lower Terminator. In the photos, you will see:

No, Brian did not drink any bad eggnog, and Kristi did not get coal in her stocking, we were robbed!

No major damage and no vandalism, but our Christmas decorations were stolen (or at least one was). This week, Tank (the dog) went nuts at the window and we just thought it was the wind. Apparently, we discovered last night as we were cleaning up from the 2 days of wind storms, our Christmas decorations were being taken. The dog must have scared them away. Only 1 reindeer was stolen, the other and the lighted presents were still attached to their power cords and ground stakes.

The dollar value is minimal and we got the last laugh, because the wind broke it and the lights did not work, but we still filed a police report in case they had a trend. The officer told me they had one or 2 this year, but not in Prescott Valley, all in Prescott.

We did not let it ruin our night and we still enjoyed the Christmas celebration at Heights Church. We even connected with my old friends and former camping lodge owner from Big Bear! That made me a very happy person since we thought we lost contact with them.

Anyway, if you see a stray plastic reindeer, with no lights from the neck up, please tell him to come home; his family wants to fix him up for next year! If you are the person who took him, I hope you give him a good home and don't just abandon him in a dumpster.

Well she has made it to 1 already i can not believe it. where has this year gone. Grandpa and Grandma Letendre were out here from California to see her on her first birthday. plus she had here Aunt Jacque and Uncle Josh with cousins Natalya & Jadon , Uncle Dale , Aunt Cathy and Grandma & Grandpa Micale all here for a little party. she was working on some more teeth so she was not exactly a happy camper at her party but i think she still had some fun. here are a few pictures of that day!

The Arizona Letendre's and Family take on Disneyland

It seems like November and December have been a whirl wind so far and there is only more to come. First we had Scott’s birthday party, and you saw and read about that, now we have our Christmas present from Grandma & Grandpa Micale. For Christmas (early, I know) the grand-kids all got a trip to Disneyland for 2 days of park hopping fun. This was their first trip to Disneyland, so the parents were excited too. Now this included both sets of grand-kids, both ours and the boys’ cousins. Grandpa loaded everybody up on the bus for a special trip, to be told to the kids later.

Oh, did I forget to mention the kids had no idea?

All the parents knew but the kids only knew we were headed on a trip on the bus with the whole family. We even told them that we were headed out of town for some good spaghetti (our planned dinner stop) and maybe we would go to a park (fun play on words, and the kids were clueless).

So off to California we went, in the 25 passenger coach with a cooler of drinks and food, bags in the back, and a bathroom on board. It was Thursday, and we were on the road.

Can I pause to emphasize just how nice that bathroom is? With 5 kids, we would have stopped at least 20 times, but with that bathroom, only for food and fuel did we stop. It was wonderful. Now back to our story…

So our first stop was Huntington Beach. Being that this was December, and all the California beach bums were in school, work, or whatever lives they had, we had the beach to ourselves. The boys had seen the ocean from our Seattle trip 2 summers ago (see previous blogs) but this was the first time they were able to go right down to the waves and collect sea shells.

The next stop was Pat & Oscars for dinner. If you live in a place which has Pat & Oscars, try it. Good food, good prices, and great bread sticks!

After dinner, we headed to the hotel where we would call home for the next 3 nights. Our hotel was cool. It was very close to our main attraction (like 1 mile from the gate) and had family rooms with bunk beds for the kids in a separate room divided from the parents by a patio sliding door. The rooms had some problems and we nearly had to go elsewhere due to a lack of bus parking, but we made it work and nothing was going to get us down.

After getting the kids to bed and ourselves the same, we woke up early (first night in a strange place, this is normal for us), and loaded onto the bus. It was there that Grandma and Grandpa broke the news exactly what “park” we would be visiting. Natalya, being the oldest, was excited right away, but the other kids fed off her excitement and knew something big was happening.

After arriving at the park, we read a great tip to start at the back of the park by taking the Disneyland train to Toon Town and letting the kids start there. So that is what we did.

The first experience in lines was the Disney Princess walk. This is where some of the classic princesses are for photos and to meet everyone. Grandpa and Brian stayed out with the stroller and this was the longest wait of the weekend, about 1 hour.

Next, we started in Toon Town. Now if you have never been to Disneyland, this area is great for kids to explore. There are all kinds of places that make noise like hidden people in mail boxes, buildings that blow up, electrocute themselves, or even break glass when you touch them. Most of the known toons have houses there and you can tour them and meet the characters too. It also had the kids’ first roller coaster. The roller coaster in Toon Town is made for kids; small, no major loops or hills, and just right for the first experience. And the best part is, the kids loved it!

The next stop was a slower ride, and a famous one. Can you name it?

This was the first time I had seen its A Small World in Christmas décor. Very nice.

Next we went to a more enclosed ride to see how the kids did in tight spaces. The Submarine ride at Disneyland has now been converted to a Finding Nemo attraction, and they did a great job.

So far, all the kids were doing great and they had more energy than we expected. We ate lunch and instead of a rest like we thought they would want, it was time for more roller coasters!

Now that the introductions to rides and lines were taken care of, it was time to head to bigger and better, the infamous Matterhorn.

All the kids (except Jessica of course) were tall enough to ride. So we all rode the Matterhorn. Everyone loved it, and I even enjoyed that it had changed since I was been there years ago.

After the Matterhorn, we did lots more around the park including Space Mountain and the kids just kept going. They loved it all and wanted to go more.

As the day wound down, we enjoyed diner and winter snow as they lit the park for Christmas. We stayed on Main Street for a great fireworks show centered over Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. II have to say, Disney does Christmas right, now if only they would lose the “Happy Holidays” junk and put up “Merry Christmas” signs.

We headed back to the bus and then the hotel for the end of the first day.

The next day the kids woke up a little later (I wonder why) but were still ready to go for more. This time, we used our passes to see Disney’s California Adventure. This park was new to all of us except Grandpa (perks of driving schools over here lots of times). I have to say, I love the feel of the California Adventure Park, very nice.

We started with a few rides and shows to get our day started. "Soaring Over California" cannot be described; all I will say is go ride it! Around the park there are areas to meet characters, so we hit a few of those as well. We also were given special VIP passes to get up front for a filming of a Playhouse Disney show with Mickey and all his friends from Playhouse Disney. It was very cool. We also learned how to speak turtle at the Turtle Talk with Crush show “dude” and we rode a huge Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and other small kids’ rides around the park. This day was more laid back, but we still had plenty to do.

The end of the day we saw the Disney Pixar parade with all the characters form the movies the kids love so much.

Finally, back to the hotel, and the kids fell right to sleep, imagine that. The adults were worn out too. The next morning we boarded the bus and headed home. The drive was quieter with the worm out kids and adults. Overall, I think everyone had a great trip and we loved playing at the happiest place on earth.

Scott's Birthday Party was a Blast he had 19 of his friends there and we played games ate cake and opened presents. We had a table set up for the kids to play with Lego's and one game was a relay race to see which team could build there tower first and the yellow team won!

Dog Days...

No, I am not talking about summer here, I am talking about our dog. It is amazing just how much damage a dog can do in less than 2 weeks.
With the new dog in the house, has done toe following in the few short days he has been around.

Dug a large hole under the fence and got out twice during rain storms. For this, he got a new anchor and 30' cable in the back yard for when we leave, and I get to put cement in that driveway area.
Torn through the screen door and insulation on the slider insert / dogie door we bought. For that, we got a new dogie door in the wall (4 hours to install due to problems, we finally finished it after 10pm), and a screen door that is completely without any screen. I will have to repair this and put one of those metal rails on it for strength.
Tore off the arm of one of Kevin's shirts while Kevin was trying to get him to leave him alone, but Tank thought it was play, so the shirt got a modification.
Took Kevin's most precious stuffed animal outside for a stroll, luckily no damage, just dirty.

All these things keep costing me money. It is amazing how you think your home is pet ready, and yea learn the truth very quickly.

3rd Annual Walk for MS Completed, and a great event succeeded!

Well, yesterday (Saturday) I walked in the third annual Prescott Walk on the Wild Side supporting the Arizona MS society. I was able to reach my fund raising goal of $500 and exceeded that by nearly $100.00.

Welcome to our family

Well, the 3 kids and mom found a dog. Funny thing, when you say to your kids "We can have a dog when we have our own house again" they remember.

So welcome home "Tank" He is a stray the humane society had for a she, so we got him cheap and originally he was a stray. The kids love him and he is very tame around the house. He is still a bit skiddish, but he is getting accustomed to our family.

Kissing the Brass goodbye

Well, nearly 3 weeks after closing escrow, we have done a lot to the house. Let me show you around.

After living here 2 years, we were sick and tired of everything "rental white" and cheap accents. So we began the renovation.

First, the kids rooms got a makeover. Here (above) is how the rooms started. Rental white walls, no accents, and no design. The rooms had basic ceiling mounted light fixtures, no fans, and no personalization, because the rental agency would not let us. You can see the color sample on Jessica's wall.

Below, you can see the transformation. Jessica's room is a green with white accents and lady bugs galore. The large green wall will soon have a home made picket fence and flowers Kristi sewed together from fabric. A great design idea and it came out great. The boys, being the Arizona Diamondback fans that they are, went baseball all the way. Heather Grey walls accented with Diamondbacks Red and Black accents. The baseball dresser you see was made from an old wooden dresser with plain wood handles. Eventually, we want to make the silver handles exchanged out for baseballs, but that is still to come. We also have more red display boxes to display the great Diamondbacks collection the boys have.

While we still have the bathrooms, office, and closets to repaint and revise, the house is much more personal for us.

And as for my title above, if you wondered what I mean by "Kissing the brass goodbye"... all of our cheap brass door knobs and door stops have been replaced with much nicer, oil rubbed bronze items. It really dresses up the entire house. I would replace everything down to the door hinges, but that takes more time and money than I have right now. The list goes on from there.

Furniture trade

So we were looking rather loosely for a replacement sofa for our house. A few weeks ago, we stayed with family in Phoenix and they had a sectional too big for their home. We, jokingly, said "let's trade" thinking nothing more of it.

So Labor Day weekend, they stopped by and said again they would trade, now having seen our sofa.

So yesterday it happened, we traded the green sofa, love seat, chair, and ottoman for the dark brown sectional. It worked out great for both of us.

Letters to God

Well Kristi and I picked up a movie rental yesterday called “Letters to God.” You may have heard about it, it got poor reviews from a number of sources, but as a Christian movie, I try to see all the major ones and support the cause as well as judge for myself.

Overall, I placed this movie on par with Flywheel. What? You have never heard of Flywheel? Well, here is that movie trailer:

So anyway, the movie was good, not quite blockbuster good in my opinion, but still good. Actually, all of these were movies are very good.

So I started thinking, how many Christian film making companies are out there? Upon a quick search of Google, I found a list on Wikipedia which listed over 100 film companies which make Christian films. While most of them are made-for-television movies, a few like Sherwood and Possibility Pictures are stepping on to the big screen. And while they may not get major name actors and have the best special effects, they are beginning to make headway. Also, in the DVD market series titles like “Love Comes Softly” and others are doing very well too.

Let’s continue to encourage Hollywood to make good family films and support these movies. Go see them, rent them, or even buy them and share with your friends (I have all the Sherwood movies, and you are welcome to borrow them). When Sherwood comes out with their 4th movie, Courageous, go see it in theaters. I know I hope to go see it, and probably will eventually buy it. It is that time again. It's time for the annual Prescott Walk on the Wild Side to support the Arizona Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

I have been affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for the past 16 years. In 1992, my Mom was diagnosed with MS for the second time in her life. At age 16 she was first diagnosed, but the disease went into remission and hid until 1992. Since then, my Mom has been a fighter, trying everything she could to bring my brother and I a great life and thinking very little about herself. Over those years, she digressed to the point now where she relies on a wheelchair for mobility, but still is giving everything she has to her kids and grand kids. Now it is my turn to give back.

I also have many friends that I have met through walks either effected by MS or enduring its ill effects every day.

Last year, participants came together to raise money for the National MS Society's Arizona Chapter to help fund research for a cure to end Multiple Sclerosis. Building on the success of previous years, we plan to move forward with another walk this year to benefit the chapter.

The Arizona Chapter of the National MS Society has been serving the state of Arizona since 1956. During this time, our understanding of MS has increased, the services we are able to provide have grown and the research we help to fund has led to treatments and therapies where none existed only 15 years ago. We proudly serve over 8,000 Arizonans affected by MS.

October 2nd I will be hitting the trail and I will walk to fight MS. Last year, over 100 people made the walk and this year we plan for more. Here is what I need.

I have a goal of $500 dollars to raise before the walk. This is more than I raised last year and I need your help to get there.

I am asking you for 3 things:

First, please donate to the cause by clicking the image on the upper left corner of my blog to support me.

Second, take a day or two and think of who could help me make the goal, then please forward this information to them and encourage their participation.

Finally, pray. Keep the event in your prayers as all the participants raise funds to fight MS.

Praise God for his protection. We had our AC go out yesterday and to avoid the weekend fees, we waited jntil this morning to have it looked at. When the guy came out, he told us it was toast with a burned controller and motor and the whole unit would need replacement due to its age and other things he found. The protection came when he told us it was sparking, so leave it off. It had been on and not working all night. That unit is over the kids rooms too, so PRAISE GOD FOR PROTECTING US FROM A FIRE. Just had to share.

UPDATE FROM HOME: The AC unit has had the work done to replace the main board and clean it up a bit. The seller of the house paid, so we are back and working right now. Here is the main board they took out.

We are buying the jouse we are already in from the investor who bought it at auction, so we are not moving and we are buying our rental. GOD IS GREAT!!!

July wrap up

Well, July is over, August is here, and what a busy month it has been.

As you may know, the house we are renting is being auctioned this month since the land owner is not paying his bills. We were trying to buy a home we found via short sale in April, but that finally fell through since the bill we needed to have signed in Washington D.C. was begin delayed by politics. Well it finally went through and was signed so we are back on the looking trail. We looked at 10 houses yesterday, and even placed an offer on one. We should hear in the next few days.

Also during July, both boys completed swimming lessons. Kevin did "Daddy & Me" classes where Brian swam too, and Scott was with the bigger kids and a swim instructor. They both did great. Here are a few pictures of Scott, we have videos too, but they will be posted later.

Another great activity the boys went to was a Diamondbacks game followed by a concert of the Wiggles. They met Kristi's Aunt Dianna who lives in Phoenix area as well as her Grandson, William. They all had a blast.
If you are not sure who the Wiggles are, they are a kids TV show group who teach good lessons for live and have fun doing it. For us older generation, think Mr. Rodgers meets the Beach Boys. Lots of fun music, tons of great lessons, and most all kids know them.

While they were in Phoenix at the game and concert, Brian had to work. So after work, he went down Schnebly Hill Road in the Sedona area. The full write up of that trip is here, http://www.ucora.org/forum_ucora3/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5143, but you can see a few pictures.

Kristi also was asked to make a cake for her sister-in-law's birthday, and as usual, she did a great job.

So that ended July for us, I think we did enough. Now August comes and we continue to find our next place to live. Weather God provides another great rental, or our own wonderful house, we have confidence he WILL provide and are patiently waiting for his moving.

Catching up

Where has June gone! I can't believe it is June 27 already. Let me catch you up on our happening, and what we have been up to.

June started off running like crazy for Kristi and I. We celebrated 8 wonderful years together on the first.

Scott was still in t-ball until the first week of June and then we hosted a team barbecue to end the season at our house. I had certificates and baseball cards for each of the players to give them at the barbecue. My team surprised me with a very cool wall flag with all the milestones of the Arizona Diamondbacks. I will hang that with pride!

With summer in Arizona heating up, we hit the pool for the first time this year as well. Both boys are signed up for swimming lessons this summer, so we are trying to get them accustomed to the water once again.

Then, the second week of June we headed to the UCORA Crawl for Christ event in Missouri. More about this event can be found at http://www.crawl4christ.com and more about UCORA can be found here.

On our way out to Missouri, we stopped at the large cross in Groom, Texas. The boys said it was the biggest cross ever! Kristi and the boys stayed at her Aunt's house while Brian went out for a weekend of wheeling. We swam, used the slip-n-slide, threw paper airplanes, and even went to Bass Pro Outdoor World. Then we added an extra couple days with Kristi's Aunt and just relaxed around her house.

We returned home around June 19. On the way home, we stopped at the home of the black Clydesdale's on Oklahoma. Those are some big horses.

The last two weeks have been spent packing and cleaning up around the house. What? You did not know we were moving? Well, our land lord apparently is not paying his bills and he has lost his house to bankruptcy. So we have to move out or risk losing our deposit money. Our deadline is next month. We planned to look for buying a house this fall, but we instead found a lender who would work with us even with our short-sale less than 2 years ago and she found a great USDA program to get us in with zero down. Trouble, President Obama has to sign the renewal of the program into law. It is on his desk according to the USDA, but he has yet to sign it. The way he likes to spend money, I figure it is only because he travels so much.

Did you know he has traveled more in the first 2 years than the previous president did in nearly all 8? That is another whole soap box for the costs associated with that, but back to our lives.

So we are packing the house and getting rid of stuff. We found a smaller home that will be another "first-time" home for us. It keeps payments small, fits us all, and we will own again! So needless to say, a yard sale is in our near future.

Finally, a segment I will call, 30. That is right, tomorrow, less than 5 hours from when I am typing this update, I will turn 30. It is nothing major for me, but a nice milestone. I don't know what it is supposed to feel like, and I don't seem to care. I have to work, so I guess it will be just another day. I will let you know if suddenly I feel different. One thing I do know however, (musically) in my next 30 years... just kidding.

Anyway, that has been our month. The kids are growing like weeds and we can't stop them. Have a happy 4th of July!

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. The day we remember the fallen; the people who gave up their lives to fight for our freedom. I think, this year, my pastor said it best.

Paraphrased: Do not be sad and mourn for the fallen all day every day, but continue to stand for the freedom they fought for. Don't give up to defeat. Those who dies would not want us to grieve their loss and not continue to live. They chose to fight for us, so we must continue to move forward in their honor.

Memorial Day and all the patriotic holidays are hard for me (Brian). It is not because I have lost a family member to war, in fact I know a few people who have left and not come back from the latest conflicts, but it is because the biggest regret I have about my life is that I never did my part. I see people like my Dad and many others who were willing to stand up and fight for our freedom. I have so much respect and honor for those people that it brings a tear to my eyes even to think they did that for me. When I got married and started my family, I chose to build my house and while I will protect it at all cost, I feel a part of me regrets not helping to protect our country. I love where I live. I will be the first to tell you, if you don't like our national laws and how things are done in this great country, then move!

I don't want to make this a political thread, so I will not get on my soap box, but this Memorial Day, fly a flag and be proud for where you live. The United States of America is a great country!

To all the veterans and families of those serving, I can not say this enough.

Time cures everything, but there are things we cannot and must not forget. Standing more than 100 feet tall, “To the Struggle Against World Terrorism” honors victims of 9/11 and the 1993 World Trade Center bombings and serves as a symbol of solidarity in the fight against world terrorism.

Created by Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, the memorial was a gift from the Russian people. Dedicated on September 11, 2006, it stands in direct view of the Statue of Liberty and the former World Trade Center.

The names of the persons killed on 9-11 are inscribed on the base. The base like the Vietnam Memorial wall. It is down in the shipping yards across from "The Lady".

“To the Struggle Against World Terrorism,” was conceived as the events of 9/11 unfolded and Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli walked the streets of Moscow.

Struck by the outpouring of grief he observed, a memorial with an image of a tear formed in his mind. Shortly after the attacks, Tsereteli visited ground zero and looked to New Jersey’s waterfront for an appropriate site for a monument honoring victims of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks.

Zurab Tsereteli is one of Russia’s most prominent and prolific artists. A sculptor, designer and architect, he captures significant historical events in large-scale sculptures and monuments on view in museums and public spaces throughout Russia, Europe, Israel, Uruguay and the United States. Other noted works by the artist include the “Victory” monument at the Moscow War Memorial, “Peter the Great” in downtown Moscow and “Good Defeats Evil” a sculpture created from scrapped American and Soviet missiles on the grounds of the United Nations in New York.

So next time you are in the New York area, don't forget to stop and not only see ground zero, but the great memorial given to us by Russia.

How Jessica has grown!

Well Jessica is now almost 5 months old and she is growing like crazy. She rolled over for the first time (tummy to back) on April 27th and also in late April we started her on rice cereal (because she is a big eater). Right now she is a little under the weather we think it is cause of allergies and teething but not totally sure. here is a little break down on how she has grown so far and a few pictures.

At Birth - 7lbs 3ozs 20 1/4 inches long
1 Month - 9lbs 4.8ozs 20 1/2 inches long
2 Months - 12lbs 1.6ozs 22 1/4 inches long
3 Months - 12lbs 6.4ozs

She has discovered that she likes to suck on her fingers and she loves to laugh and is now starting to hold on to toys and play with things. the boys love to show her new things and have her touch stuff. Scott says "hey Mom look Jessica is discovering ..... (and name the item he is showing her)! the boys really love there sister very much and are little helpers. this morning they both wanted her to sit next to them while they had breakfast and watched cartoons. she even hung out in their room and watched them play with little people. then even gave her one to hold and play with. she was sitting in her bouncy seat since she cannot sit up on her own yet.
